The latest technology used in bus seats
The bus seats include an aisle support having a hexagonally shaped aperture or cavity and a window side support having a hexagonally shaped aperture or cavity. A bottom substrate or seat is hinged to the aisle support and the window support. The bus seat includes a seat back having a hexagonally shaped apertures or cavities. A hexagonally shaped pin or torsion member interengages the hexagonally shaped aperture or cavity of the aisle support and one of the hexagonally shaped apertures orcavities of the seat back. Another hexagonally shaped pin or torsion member interengages the hexagonally shaped aperture or cavity of the window side support and the other hexagonally shaped aperture or cavity of the bus seats back. The hexagonally shapedpins or torsion members in combination with the apertures prohibit rotation of the seat back with respect to the aisle and window side supports unless a forceful load as described above is applied. Preferably, the seat back and supports are made of apolymeric material. The hexagonally shaped cavities are manufactured without significant knit lines formed as the flowability of fiber reinforced polymeric material is enhanced.

How likely are people to change assigned seats on a plane?
I realize this is completely up to the person sitting in the seat, but here's my "problem".........
I booked 3 seats, but only 2 are next to each other. The other is in the next row. Obviously, I'd like for us all to sit together, but a lot of people chose aisle seats leaving only blocks of 2 seats available.
Since they chose an aisle seat, I'm assuming they aren't likely to take the window seat on the next row.
They will be sitting next to a squirmy 4 year old, so I'm hoping that's persuasion enough to move. 
Anyway, in your experience, have people been willing to move? Or do people tend to want the seat they chose during booking even if it means sitting next to a child (during a very long flight)?
Any other suggestions besides to just suck it up? :p
We've had this happen several times with our squirmy 2 year old. In fact, once my husband, son and I were all seated in dfifferent rows -- you can guess that the folks seated next to our son were all too eager to switch.
First, you should call the airline now and see if you can get things changed right away. Sometimes they are able to jiggle things around.
If that doesn't work, get to the airport early so that you check in before all the other people with the seats you may want check in. Now with on-line check-in this is kind of a problem because people print their boarding passes out at home the day before. If you live close to the airport and it's not a big hassel, it might be worth going to the airport just under 24 hours before your flight and seeing what can be done at the counter then.
If none of this works, let the people at the gate know of your problem and let the flight attendants know as soon as you board (before you even go to your seat). It is often easier if they are able to broken a switch for you.
If it still doesn't get your whole family in a row, you can start asking around but you'll probably annoy more people than find help. Of course, on our last flight in April one father who had been seated away from his family managed to arrange a multi-seat change that also aided us (my husband had also been seated far away from us) but getting several people involved and folks actually ended up with seats they preferred in the end!
However, if you have to just suck it up, you'll all live. I don't know how long your flight is but if it is fairly long you and your spouse can take turns sitting next to and entertaining the 4-year-old so it doesn't get too exhausting for either of you.
