Austin City Limits Festival Tickets – Check out the 2010 Lineup
Summer may be music festival season, but lots of aficionados are looking forward to October, when Austin, Texas is going to be the place to be. Austin City Limits is one of the biggest music festivals in the country, and you can expect it to be a magnet for some of the hottest up and coming acts from throughout the United States this year. On top of it all is a killer lineup of headlining acts, including classic rockers the Eagles.
Let's focus on the headliners first: The Eagles are undoubtedly one of the biggest acts of the '70s, and even though they're probably the most mainstream act performing at Austin City Limits, they're also massively entertaining. Expect to detect the smell of colitas in the air when they break into "Hotel California" for the crowd's pleasure, though it will be a tough call between seeing them or one of the other major headliners.
Both Muse and Phish will be major draws, and both are great college-crowd favorites. While they're in a whole different category, the Strokes will be there, so fans should be prepared for some sweaty dance-rock, while the always colorful Flaming Lips will show up with their stunning, trippy stage show. The biggest surprise on the list of headliners is Sri Lankan hip-hop/mash-up artist M.I.A., who will be rocking the tunes from her new album, including the hit "Born Free." Just a few years ago, M.I.A. was an underground rising star, but her last major hit, "Paper Planes," catapulted her into the limelight overnight.
That takes care of the biggest draws. But there are a lot of bands that you might not be as familiar with that will be well worth the cost of tickets. LCD Soundsystem is a good one to start with. The band, which plays a kind of funky cross of electronic dance music and abstract rock, has a new record out called "This is Happening." It's one of the most anticipated releases of the year, and you can bet critics and fans alike will be camping out in front of their stage long before the show starts. Get there early.
Vampire Weekend is another group of indie-rock youngsters that have rocketed to success in short order. Earlier this year they released their sophomore album, "Contra." It became a critical darling, and though the band still divides some indie fans, everyone should give them a fair chance.
For those who like more experimental rock, Sonic Youth will be performing and should not be missed. Though not as long-lived, another indie-rock stalwart, Spoon, is going to be a big draw, as will honey-voiced chanteuse Norah Jones.
Fans of punk will have the chance to check out Gogol Bordello, one of the weirdest groups anywhere. A colorful patchwork of gypsy folk and sweaty, snarling punk rock, this is a band that you absolutely have to check out live.
