Ace Diamond: Mighty Boston Red Sox, A World Series Contenders 2010?
Well, it's that exciting time of year again and we're going to give you a brief overview of The "Mighty Boston Red Sox" for our 2010 spring training upcoming season! (Maybe not so Mighty at the bat, but Mighty in most other areas of the game!) Ace Diamond here. Aka (Gowell Bros.) Soon we'll all be singin' "The Red Sox Are Back In Town "and making our way to Fenway again!
Pitchers and catches reporting to Ft.Myers (Florida) for Spring Training Feb.18th and position players joining them on the 22nd..It's going to be a fantastic year with the RED SOX, as we'll field another playoff contender. Many feel the Bosox are going to "flash a lot of leather" and feature outstanding pitching, BUT be a bit anemic as a hitting group! Now, "two out of three ain't bad" as they say; however, their bats will be strong enough to win a playoff spot and maybe overtake the Yanks in 2010! That old saying: "Good pitching always trumps good hitting!" well, it really works out that way most every time!
The pitcher's breaking camp on the 25 player roster will likely be.. Jon Lester, Josh Beckett, John Lackey (A key addition from the Angels), Dice-K, Clay Buchhotz, & Tim Wakefield.. If any starters should falter watch for ..Mike Bolton or Junichi Tazawa, or long shot Gabby Hernandez to grab a spot! (Claimed off waivers from the Seatle, Mariners. Relief hurlers most likely holding down the bullpen come from this crop of relievers.. Papelbon, Bard, Okaijima, Ramirez, Delcarmen, Boof Bonser (what a name),Scott Atcheson & Brian Shouse. Most objective observers would say this is fine bullpen with the starters being their strongest feature! 5-6 potential 16-20 game winners here!! The best rotation in the league and certainly would be ranked in the top-3 rotations in all of baseball; if they stay healthy most of 2010!
The infield features gold glove winners in all but one infield position and should be solid as a rock and hit better than average! Catching opening day should be Victor Martinez.. Kevin Youklis IB... Dustin Pedroia 2B..Marco Scutaro SS.. Adrian Beltre 3B.. (only question is .can Beltre stay healthy?).if not, this writer really hopes the Sox hang on to Mike Lowell, as he's still a fine 300 hitter and could play third or do some DH work, especially if "Big Poppy" (David Ortiz) DH has a slow start again this year! A good insurance plan would be to retain Lowell, if at all possible!? Note: "Martinez" can play some 1B & Yuk can play a little 3B..gives this Boston infield some nice options!
The outfield is pretty well set for starters.. Jacoby Ellsbury RF, Mike Cameron CF, (A good addition) for a year or two.. then Ellsbury will be back in Center; JD Drew RF, and a very talented "Josh Reddick" (outlield) waiting in the wings should be assigned to AAA-Pawtucket in the International League, if he doesn't make the Big team!.. I've personally observed Josh up close playing for the "Portland Maine Sea Dogs, as I live in the area and believe me.. "this kid has all the tools" ,the rest of the world, caught his act, after he got called up to Boston in 2009 as a very young kid.. he held his own and impressed a lot of folks! Make room for Mr. Reddick this year or next. .he's a comer!!
Well, I guess every team is a "World Series contender" in the Springtime and we all love Spring training and the Grapefruit league games, as it's a sign the 2010 season is knockin' at the door! Up here in New England we're all " Chompin" at the bit" to get down on Yaw key Way and make our way to Fenway for OPENING DAY!! "Play Ball" The tune the Sox play at every home game just after a kid says..
